Tired of paying up the Wazzoo for programs?

7: VIM

This is only at the bottom of my list because, well, most people don't even need such a magnigicent editor. VIM, or VI IMproved, is just that actually, an improvement on Unix's VI. It's an incredible text editor and IDE serving as both Command line Interface and Graphic User Interface.

How is that possible ? Try it... works on all OSs.VIM download here IMO, all computer interface should be VIM.

Smiley face

6: Panda Security
PC Mag reviewed this one. Compared to products which cost $30-40 such as BitDefender, Kaspersky and McAfee it was rated only one point lower in performance !
Why pay when you can play ? Download Panda here.
5: Brackets

Want to do some webdesign with front-end emphasis but back end sensibilities... don't have the thousands to fork over for Adobe Dreamweaver ? There's lots of alternatives. Of course you can stick with IE and Notepad, if you've got Windows but if you want something more tailored for the job: try Adobe's own developed opensource program: Brackets. Who knew that .io registers domains ?

Try it here !
4: GIMP

GIMP is amazing. There is a huge support community with tons of information, tips and resources... almost as large as that for Adobe Photoshop. Although the interface is different and takes getting used to, you can, as with all opensource, write macros and alter code. Try it here !

3: Libre Office

This includes everything that comes with Microsoft office. There is Libre Draw for graphics/diagrams. Calc for spreadsheets. Writers for documents. Impress Presentation for that and Base Database for creating databases. An entirely free suite of excellent programs !

Try it here !

2: Ubuntu Linux

Why are you even paying for an OS ? Ubuntu is on this list because it not only has extensive resources, community, it also allows for a a dual boot with Windows or OS X (who names their OS, X?) so the transition to a linux based OS is easier.

Try it here !
1: Jought!

Shameless self-promotion here. Jought can be used as a publishing platform for blogging, advertizing, photography, web design, etc! Try it here !
