When going through life, you must invest in yourself first. If you don't have the time or means to invest in yourself, something needs to be done about that. You are giving too much of yourself to other things and there is no reason why you can't invest in yourself to improve yourself. --Ankit

Pissing Contests On Paper Or Iq Testing

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination" —Albert Einstein

I’m always curious about peoples IQ’s…I’m also curios about astrological signs and while they’re fun to discuss—I'm of the thought neither carry any gravitas, certainty or meaning.

In the first place, if these test carry any statistical significance it is only to indicate those scoring high are likely to make less and acquire little to no success, as socially defined, anyways. Most of us are aware of the Bell Shaped curve of intelligence where both high and low ends perform poor on socio-economic measures.

What is worse is the pretense and “prestige” involved in these things. Literally every few years some 12 year old scores higher than Einstein and the media showcases them. Whole societies are formed around taking them and then getting together and, I don’t know, do whatever geniuses do. There’s an even higher level of snobbery because these organizations have differing tests and measures and more elite groups criticize others. The Triple Nine Society thinks Mensa isn’t that bright.

Do you know what an IQ test is? It’s a standardized test, in a sense any human created test is. What that means is it realizes on collective assignment of answer choices and subjective interpretation of correctness. IQ snobs hate hearing this but it’s statistically true—the more you take it the better you perform. This is true of most things in life and is a certainty—you rarely get worse at things you attempt more…except maybe in love.

That’s just the thing and IQ in a nutshell.

I recently read an article where the author actually wrote this smug gem:

People with this kind of intellectual ability can do things with their minds that can’t even be described to ordinary people.

Really? Their deciding ability can’t even be explained to ordinary folk…he mite as well tell you your feeble brain will explode. Remember, Einsteins said, If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

What Intelligence really is, is fitness or a ‘test’ from nature. What IQ is, is your ability to look for solutions within lengthier time limits—it’s not retention—or processing speed. Bill Gates for instance has only an IQ of 125 but he has an eidetic memory. It’s similar to photographic memory but he can also memorize textual references nearly word for word.

You may have a large and exact retention but little ability to look for solutions. Similarly, you may retain poorly but solve well. It should also be noted there is a difference between looking for solutions and finding solutions—the latter is creativity or imagination. After all, looking for solutions implies they are visible and there is an infrastructure for them which is what IQ tests are. They provide you answers. Creativity is a making connections to new, unorthodox or unseen paths.
